Servicios para Niños, Jóvenes y Familias
Consejo works closely with high-risk youth and their families to formulate a strategic response and provide constructive alternatives to gang involvement for isolated and disenfranchised Latino youth. Activities include tutoring, mentoring, field trips, summer camps, academic scholarships, SUD outpatient recovery services, mental health treatment, participation in visual and performing arts as well as opportunities for community service. Programs include the following;
Youth Violence Prevention Program
Our YVP Program targets high-risk youth afflicted by family and domestic violence, drug and alcohol abuse, child neglect, sexual abuse and violence from gang involvement. Currently, Consejo facilitates this grant as part of the Seattle Youth Violence Prevention Initiative.
School Based Counseling Program
The overall goal of Consejo’s School Based Counseling is to support Latino youth to succeed in school. Youth participants receive substance use prevention, intervention, domestic violence education, sexual assault prevention, mental health evaluations, mental health treatment, and psychiatric care. Consejo provides school based services in all of the major school districts located in King and Pierce Counties. Our school based counseling program includes the following services:
a)Gang Prevention Community Education Training to assist in identifying the warning signs of gang behavior including graffiti and graphics, gestures, dress codes, as well as language and music..
c)Recovery Services including drug and alcohol treatment, mental health counseling, family counseling, grief and loss therapy, and support groups.
“If I wouldn’t gotten Consejo’s help at the moment that I most needed it, I think… I might have been dead, if I wouldn’t had the treatment for alcohol and drugs. Over the years they supported me they kept me in school. What inspires me every day is that one step at the time I am helping a student or just a friend of mine. If we don’t support the youth at the right moment a lot of these kids lose their way.”
